Easy Hanzi

Easy Hanzi does three things to help you learn Chinese. It quizzes you and thus tests your skills, it lets you view and manage a list of flash cards that present various Chinese characters, and it provides an easy to use dictionary so you can easily translate words to and from Chinese.

Easy Hanzi is available for Windows and for Mac. To get Easy Hanzi up and running on your Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7-powered PC, you will have to download and run an executable (it’s little over 31MB in size). A setup wizard will show up when you run the executable; a few clicks later you will be done with the installation process and you’ll be ready to start using Easy Hanzi.

The following buttons are displayed at the top of Easy Hanzi interface: Practice (let the application test your knowledge about Chinese characters), Manage Cards (view and manage all the cards the application has to offer), Dictionary (easily translate words from one language to another), Register (purchase a license, install a license), Options (import and export cards, print cards, access the Options menu), and Help.

If you want to start practicing Chinese characters, you must click the New Session button from the bottom left hand corner of the interface. Before the practice session commences, Easy Hanzi will ask you to choose a card deck and select a few options for the session – you will then be able to start the session and test your knowledge.

I mentioned above that you must choose a card deck before starting a practice session. You can view all the decks, view all cards from a deck, edit them, export and print them out, from the Manage Cards section. You can even search for the symbol on a card in the dictionary.

You can use Easy Hanzi for free for an evaluation period of one month. Once this trial period is over, you will have to get a license to keep using the application. It must be mentioned here that there’s also a Basic edition of Easy Hanzi that is 100% free, but comes with a basic set of features.
